There Is Nothing To Fear But Fear Itself

The world has been rightly preoccupied with the plight of people in the countries currently being occupied by the US / NATO armies, which are understood to be the countries they are at war with. No one seems to recognize that the countries most occupied by these forces are the US, followed by their allies.

No, these people are not having bombs dropped on their heads as they starve in toxic environments. But I still cannot ignore the despair and hysteria in some of the people on the internet today. These people were brought up as the chosen ones. They have been told all of their lives that they are the superior race, everyone wants to be them, and everyone hates them for their ‘way of life’. They have been taught to fear and have contempt for all other people in the world. They have been discouraged from ever listening to a viewpoint outside their country on the grounds that it was ‘propaganda’ (old) or ‘biased’ (current).

They have lost all of their personal freedoms and dignity in the name of ‘national security’, because everyone else is jealous and coming to get them. They have lost their homes, their health, their jobs, and the money to buy food, and that is the fault of other countries, probably China. Like a rescued feral animal, these people are not going to view the overthrowing of the MIC and the rise of democracy as anything good. In the minds of these people, all that is standing between them and certain death or worse, is their big strong army, ‘the finest fighting force in the history of the world’.

Like we saw with the civil rights movement, people bred on hate cannot understand that the people they have harmed the most may not want them destroyed. They who cannot forgive, do not understand the potential for forgiveness. This week, they are genuinely terrified. All they can see is that someone is taking away their big strong shield and leaving them at the mercy of all these people who hate them and want to kill them.

We come in peace.

From Martin Luther King, an expert on the subject:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies – or else? The chain reaction of evil – hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars – must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.

I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.

I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

If physical death is the price that I must pay to free my white brothers and sisters from a permanent death of the spirit, then nothing can be more redemptive.

  1. I would like to put up a note about these so-called allied from Nato.

Since WW2, the USA have established a net of national bases all over the world. Each and every Nato member host bases worth of tens of thousands of US soldiers and equipment ready to raid them.

No amount of peaceful protests have ever pushed one of these bases away. Democratic countries whose population is strongly pacifist, are forced to support the “war on terror” weapons on their soil. Actually, no: that is not their soil anymore. We are all overseas colonies of the American Empire. Its slaves.

  2. Yes, absolutely, and that is a point that needed to be made.

But the peaceful protests in the US are also ignored. This is a war of the worldwide military industrial complex against the people. Those companies and military grew in the capitalist US, but they have spread throughout the world, they are all multinationals now. And some in the US are fighting against them harder than anyone, with far less support and far greater risks. They need our support now more than anyone, it is very isolating being a democracy supporter in the US, as we’ve all seen on the internet flame wars … This paragraph not at you, xdiesp, just the world in general … From Leonard Cohen:

    It’s coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and of the worst.
It’s here they got the range
    and the machinery for change
and it’s here they got the spiritual thirst.
    It’s here the family’s broken
and it’s here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
    in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

  3. This could be one of two things, the beginnings of a much wider sweep, or a statement that yes, they do own the internet. Which they do, almost all IT and communications companies are part of US intelligence, and they have no problem shutting down domains in other countries. Since (so far) some fairly obvious targets are still up, I’m inclined to think it’s another Obama muscle flex.

Does anyone believe the story that all these cables contain are diplomats insulting each other? Obviously, that is the story the off line media is being encouraged to run with. If they could then block the internet, we would never see what inspired this conversation:

(12:59:41 PM) bradass87: uhm… crazy, almost criminal political backdealings… the non-PR-versions of world events and crises… uhm… all kinds of stuff like everything from the buildup to the Iraq War during Powell, to what the actual content of “aid packages” is: for instance, PR that the US is sending aid to pakistan includes funding for water/food/clothing… that much is true, it includes that, but the other 85% of it is for F-16 fighters and munitions to aid in the Afghanistan effort, so the US can call in Pakistanis to do aerial bombing instead of americans potentially killing civilians and creating a PR crisis

(1:00:57 PM) bradass87: theres so much… it affects everybody on earth… everywhere there’s a US post… there’s a diplomatic scandal that will be revealed… Iceland, the Vatican, Spain, Brazil, Madascar, if its a country, and its recognized by the US as a country, its got dirt on it

(1:10:38 PM) bradass87: its open diplomacy… world-wide anarchy in CSV format… its Climategate with a global scope, and breathtaking depth… its beautiful, and horrifying…

(1:47:36 PM) bradass87: im sorry, there’s so many… its impossible for any one human to read all quarter-million… and not feel overwhelmed… and possibly desensitized

(1:48:20 PM) bradass87: the scope is so broad… and yet the depth so rich

(1:48:50 PM) Adrian: give me some bona fides … yanno? any specifics.

(1:49:40 PM) bradass87: this one was a test: Classified cable from US Embassy Reykjavik on Icesave dated 13 Jan 2010

(1:50:30 PM) bradass87: the result of that one was that the icelandic ambassador to the US was recalled, and fired

    (1:51:02 PM) bradass87: thats just one cable…

  4. new revelations from the USA – source The Independent, UK

“WikiLeaks are an absolutely awful impediment to my business, which is to be able to have discussions in confidence with people,” said James Jeffrey, US ambassador to Baghdad. “I do not understand the motivation for releasing these documents. They will not help, they will simply hurt our ability to do our work here.”

  6. Exposure is definitely everything. The information has always been there, the people being tortured knew they were being tortured, we just have to make everyone else know too. And care. Thanks for joining the snowball!

  7. Thank you wikileakers for holding the mirror in front of the faces of those who depend on suppression, confusion and peoples fears. Thank you for hitting the dreaded “reply to all” button. Thanks for a brilliant sense of humor.

  8. First let me say I support Wikileaks and am in awe of the Vision and Courage of Julian Assange.

I agree with the main thrust of your piece.

I feel that we need to look at the current MIC Capitalist ethos as a Quasi Religious construct.

It’s not like they are all sitting around wringing their hands and going “muoo ha ha ha”. Though there are probably some of those. It’s the people of the whole system. They mostly believe. Everybody is faced with choices all the time, and sometimes, as we well know, the “right” choice can be very difficult. And of course, the believer may actually think that they ARE making the right choice.

And there is of course the justifications……”You can’t make an omlete without breaking eggs”…..”The ends justify the means”…” I was ordered to do it”

The solutions of course are self reponsibility and compassion.

    Choose Happiness now!!
